Microsoft continuing to cut it's headcount. Looks like it's trying to do this in a less cutthroat way than mandatory layoffs, but if they don't make quota, I wonder if they will just cut the remainder. Article says sales teams are not included and as much of ma ireland are tech sales, I wonder if this will have much effect here. https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-is-offering-buyouts-read-the-memo-2026-10

  • “Rumour mill is in overdrive at my company too that voluntary layoffs might be coming. Half the department are delighted at the prospect, half are dreading it. I'm there 3 years (longer than those delighted at the idea) and I'm fairly sure I'd get absolutely fuck all, so I don't know why people would be thrilled at the idea.”

  • “Not surprised. Morale and culture are at rock bottom and top talent has been leaving for years including myself last year. Microsoft is a shell of its former self, 0% pay rises, cut bonuses, virtually no promotions and a lack of strategy beyond screaming AI while delivering mediocre products and little innovation these days. Sort of turned into one of those too comfortable big American companies”
