A question for the Rockwell power users out there: What is the best practice for dealing with the Rockwell Cumulative Patch Rollup? Personally, the projects I've worked on, I used a stable version of Studio5000 and never thought about it. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Recently I've been working at a processing plant with 20+ PLC based machines, with multiple versions of everything. I had an issue with something not working, installed the latest CPR and it fixed the issue I was having. Now I'm wondering if I should be installing every one that comes out?

  • “Giant food site. Our food safety plan involves patching proactively. I use FTUpdater to roll out the patch to all 38VMs on 2 FT Directories. Otherwise when a CVE gets posted I’d be breaking production in an unscheduled manner. All PLCs that support it are on V38.11. Otherwise the highest possible for that hardware v20.?? We have the pull to calmly twist Rockwell’s arm to fix things now, which”

  • “I install the patches every month. I also update AOPs periodically when I come across them. I don't install every AOP, just the ones that make sense to keep up on for devices I'm likely to encounter for my customers. I also suck up EDS files like a Hoover when I see them on a customer machine just in case that's the version missing from my library.”

  • “Better off just picking a version your happy with and getting everything to that. I'm currently moving towards v34 for my site”

  • “I only install it when something doesn’t work”

  • “I try to keep my VM up to date, but I only use that when I have to, normally because a path has disappeared from the RSLinx tree on the remote desktop servers and since it's running as a service that I don't have the permissions to stop, there's no connecting to those paths until the one guy with access does his fucking job... Speaking of his job, patches do not appear to be a part of it. Nothing”
