Understanding Generation Mode
Sequence Mode creates a flowing cadence where each step builds on the previous one. Insights are distributed across messages, and tone is consistent.
Individual Mode treats each step in isolation. This is ideal for single-touch outreach or when steps are not meant to relate to each other.
When to Use Each Mode
Use Sequence Mode when:
You’re building a multi-step cadence.
You want insights to be spaced across messages.
Sending is configured through Gmail, Outlook (in Autobound) or you plan to run the sequence in another system like Instantly or Hubspot.
Use Individual Mode when:
Each message should be self-contained.
You’re drafting one-off emails.
The campaign won’t be sent as an automated thread.
How to Set Generation Mode
You can select the mode in the Content tab once your campaign includes at least two content steps. If sequencing is enabled via Gmail, Outlook, Outreach, or Salesloft, Sequence Mode is selected by default and cannot be changed unless sending is disabled.
Mode status is indicated clearly:
No steps: “Add two more steps to unlock Generation Mode.”
One step: “Add one more step to activate Generation Mode.”
Two or more steps: toggle appears.
Sequencing enabled: locked to Sequence Mode.
Row-Level Generation: Unified Button
In Sequence Mode, each row shows a unified generation button anchored to the first content step:
▶ Generate sequence: Runs all steps if none are filled.
↻ Generate remaining steps: Fills only blank or errored steps.
🔁 Regenerate sequence: Rewrites all steps.
Hovering over the icon highlights all related cells. Clicking the button triggers generation for that entire row through a single Vellum request, ensuring insight flow and narrative consistency.
Switching Modes After Content Exists
If you switch from Sequence to Individual Mode (or vice versa) after content is generated, existing steps won’t be rewritten automatically. You’ll see a banner prompting you to regenerate for consistency.
Regenerating Steps
To rewrite content in the new mode:
Open the Prospects tab.
Click the row-level sequence button.
Choose to regenerate all steps or only the incomplete ones.
Context Indicators on Each Step
While editing or previewing, you’ll see a note describing the current mode:
“Steps will flow together and share insights” (Sequence)
“Each step stands alone; insights may repeat” (Individual)
Best Practices
Choose Sequence Mode for multi-step automated cadences.
Use Individual Mode for stand-alone content or one-off outreach.
Avoid switching modes mid-campaign.
If you do switch, regenerate your steps to keep tone and insight distribution consistent.
