What Are 6-K Filing Signals?

The 6-K is the current report foreign private issuers file with the SEC, the international equivalent of the 8-K. When a non-US company listed on American exchanges experiences a material event (leadership change, acquisition, restructuring), it discloses the event via a 6-K filing.

Unlike 20-F annual filings, 6-Ks are event-driven and high-volume; a single company may file several per year as events occur. Autobound classifies each filing into 72 event subtypes, and because 6-Ks capture discrete events rather than comprehensive narratives, each typically yields 1-3 focused, immediately actionable signals. That fills a real gap: domestic 8-K filings are widely monitored, but many sales teams miss the equivalent events at foreign companies. 6-K signals give global accounts the same event intelligence as domestic ones.

How we build this signal

How we build each 6-K signal

Every week a job reads the previous week's 6-K filings and runs each through five stages. Code checks every model answer before it ships.

Relevance floor
0.7
Model reads per filing
3
Refresh
Weekly
  1. 01

    Collection

Each Tuesday a job queries an SEC filings index for every company in our public-company list and collects the 6-K filings dated in the previous week.

  2. 02

    Section extraction

We fetch the filing and keep the parts that carry business detail. If none is found, a trimmed copy of the full text is used.

  3. 03

    Three focused reads

A model reads each filing three times, once per theme: leadership and strategy, technology and operations, financial health and risk. Each read picks subtypes from a closed list, uses each once and must quote the filing.

  4. 04

    Quality gates

Code drops any signal with an unlisted subtype, a relevance score under 0.7, or evidence that is under 50 characters, a table fragment or boilerplate such as safe-harbor text. A filing whose company has no website ships nothing.

  5. 05

    Dedup and delivery

One filing yields at most one signal per subtype. Each signal is fingerprinted on form, subtype, ticker and filing date, and a shipped fingerprint is never delivered again. Records are schema-checked before upload.

Frequently asked questions

What are 6-K foreign report signals?
6-K filings are event-driven reports filed by foreign private issuers with the SEC, the international equivalent of an 8-K. Autobound extracts 72 signal subtypes from 12,500 international companies, detecting leadership changes, acquisitions, material contracts, restructuring events, and other material corporate events as they happen.
How does Autobound detect 6-K filing signals?
Autobound monitors SEC EDGAR for new 6-K filings on a weekly refresh cadence. Our AI models classify the event type, extract key details including affected personnel and financial impact, assign relevance and confidence scores, and link directly to the source filing. Each 6-K typically yields 1-3 distinct signals.
How should I use 6-K data in my outreach?
6-K signals create the same time-sensitive outreach windows as 8-K filings, but for international companies. Leadership changes, acquisitions, and material contracts all trigger vendor evaluation periods. The key advantage is that few sales teams monitor foreign filings, giving you a significant timing advantage over competitors who rely on English-language news coverage.
