What Are Financial Fundamentals Signals?

Financial fundamentals signals distill key metrics and trends from public company filings into actionable intelligence: is revenue growing or declining, are margins expanding or compressing, did the company beat or miss earnings expectations? Revenue acceleration indicates growing budget capacity; margin compression suggests demand for cost-reduction solutions; an earnings miss often triggers internal reviews that open doors for new vendors.

Each signal includes historical context so you can distinguish one-time events from sustained trends. Three consecutive quarters of revenue deceleration tells a different story than a single miss followed by recovery, and our trend detection surfaces these patterns automatically. Fundamentals signals track the numbers themselves, complementing 10-K and 10-Q signals that capture narrative disclosures and strategic commentary.

How we build this signal

How we build each financial fundamentals signal

No language model writes these signals. Every week, fixed rules run over the financials of companies that just reported.

Language models used
None
Min. trading history

Weekly
  1. 01

    Collection

Each week a job downloads bulk data for public companies: trailing-twelve-month metrics and ratios, growth rates, earnings surprises, quotes, company profiles and analyst consensus.

  2. 02

    Freshness gates

Only companies that reported earnings in the run window are evaluated. Earnings over 180 days old, reports without results yet, and companies with under 12 months of trading are skipped. REITs, ETFs, closed-end funds and BDCs are excluded, since standard rules misread them.

  3. 03

    Rule evaluation

Each subtype is a written rule over named metrics, such as a ratio under a threshold, with sector exclusions where it does not apply. A signal fires only when the rule holds, and a missing metric never passes.

  4. 04

    Scoring and conflicts

Each signal gets a 0-100 relevance score from rule weight, distance past the threshold, data completeness and company size. When two contradictory subtypes fire for one company, only the stronger ships. The top signal per company is marked primary, and each signal carries an expiry date.

  5. 05

    Dedup and delivery

Firmographics are joined by domain. Each signal is fingerprinted on ticker, subtype and earnings date, so one quarter's result ships once.

Frequently asked questions

What are financial fundamentals signals?
Financial fundamentals signals track quantitative performance metrics, including revenue growth, margin trends, earnings beats or misses, R&D spending ratios, and cash flow changes, for 4,500 public companies. Unlike qualitative signals from filings or earnings calls, fundamentals give you hard numbers to assess account health and budget capacity.
How does Autobound detect financial fundamentals signals?
Autobound aggregates financial data from SEC filings and financial data APIs, normalizing metrics across companies and time periods. Our models calculate year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter changes, detect trend inflections, and flag outlier performance. Signals are refreshed every two weeks.
How should I use financial fundamentals data in my outreach?
Use revenue growth and earnings data to prioritize accounts with budget capacity. Reference specific metrics like 'your 30% revenue growth' to show you have done real research. Combine with qualitative signals from earnings calls to understand both the numbers and the narrative behind them.
